How it works

2,514 producers · free to play

FLRanked is a head-to-head beat battle. Two producers get the same melodies and the same clock, and the beats are scored by audio analysis rather than put to a public vote. Nobody can brigade a result, and the same two beats always produce the same outcome.

1. The melody draft

Every battle opens with nine melodies in a three-by-three grid. You can play any of them before you commit. You and your opponent then take turns striking melodies out — three bans each — and the three left standing become your pack. Build on one of them or all three.

Drums are never drafted. Bring your own kit, your own 808s, whatever you normally work with.

2. The clock

Both producers get the same amount of time from the moment the pack locks. Download the melodies, make the beat, export it, hand it in. WAV, MP3 and FLAC are all accepted.

3. The judging

Your beat is measured, not voted on. Eight categories, each out of 100:

  • Mix — whether your level sits where competitive releases sit, and whether you crushed the peaks getting there.
  • Low end — whether the bottom of the mix is defined or smeared into the low mids.
  • Tonal balance — how the energy is spread from bottom to top, and whether anything is harsh or dull.
  • Dynamics — whether the beat still breathes, or has been flattened into a solid block.
  • Groove — timing against the tempo detected in your beat, how much is going on, and how defined the transients are.
  • Arrangement — whether the track moves through sections or loops a single bar for two minutes.
  • Melody use — whether the drafted pack is genuinely in there.
  • Clarity — whether the export is clean.

The exact thresholds behind each category aren't published. A published target is a target to game, and the scores would stop meaning anything — the categories tell you where the problem is, fixing it is still production.

The scorecard shows every category side by side, so you can see exactly where the battle was won or lost. It also reads back the tempo and key it detected in your beat.

4. Rating and ranks

Win and your rating goes up, lose and it comes down. The leaderboard is public, and so is every player's profile.

Your rating puts you in a rank. You start Unranked — you earn your way onto the ladder rather than starting at the bottom of it — and the first finished battle places you.

  • Unranked No battles yet
  • Rookie 0–2 rating
  • Bronze 3–6 rating
  • Silver 7–12 rating
  • Gold 13–21 rating
  • Platinum 22–34 rating
  • Diamond 35–54 rating
  • Elite 55+ rating

What if nobody else is online?

You never sit in an empty queue. If no one is around, the battle generates a challenger for you and scores it on the same eight categories your beat is scored on. The bar it sets scales with your rank, so it stays worth beating as you climb. It is a target, not a person — the scorecard says so, and nobody else's beat is ever handed to you as a trophy.

What does it cost?

Nothing. FLRanked is free, there is no download, and it runs in the browser.
